First, three boats finished:

00.51.57 Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team
03.15.42 AkzoNobel Ocean Racing Team
04.59.42 Sailing Poland

Currently, in fourth with the morning breeze picking up, it looks like we should be able to hold this position.

0100 CEST --
AkzoNobel Ocean Racing will likely be the next to finish and just like the Mirpuri boat in front of them, they've made some late moves by sailing further offshore, nearly along the track of the boat in front. A nice move by skipper Chris Nicholson and navigator Will Harris.

0055 CEST -- And they've done it!! A famous win in Leg 3 of The Ocean Race Europe for Mipuri Foundation Racing Team and skipper Yoann Richomme. This will keep them at the top of the leaderboard heading into the coastal race on Saturday.

Thursday, June 17, 00.005 CEST
Both Mirpuri and AkzoNobel have passed Team Childhood I and Sailing Poland. Will they finish it off or will there be a park up before the finish line?!?

With about 30 nm it’s still far from decided. If the wind dies out as forecast, the boats could be drifting, becalmed, within just miles of the finishing line well into the morning hours.

There will be live coverage of the finishes in Genoa on The Ocean Race YouTube till that moment follow The Ocean Race Tracker

We're going into the last night of the race with Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team hot on our heels. Next to that, we have another issue. Let’s hear from Max Deckers onboard Team Childhood I

Wednesday, June 16, 14.15 CEST
It’s going to look like a nail-biting finish once again. According to the tracker, it’s only 4 nm between us and the far more to the east positioned leader of the fleet Sailing Poland. At the same time, we’ve got a battle on our tail with Mirpuri only 1,7 nm behind us.

Earlier this morning with 140 nm to go.
Peter van Niekerk: ”We're playing the coastline a little bit. We got some favourite left breeze. So we're quite happy I think but we're not in Genoa yet.”

With around 100 nm to go to Genova. It’s still far from decided, especially with the light weather conditions ahead. The current ETA for the top of the fleet is midnight at the earliest. But there is a lot of uncertainty in that.

Matt Whitehead: “The last 24 hours have been a rollercoaster of emotions. We had slowed down to zero knots I think at one stage. And then in the early hours of this morning we had the little breeze from Mallorca that we managed to get into. When we slowly kind of wiggled our way out of the light patch and again sailed into more light breeze at around lunchtime.“

”More wiggling again to get out of that and now we are sort of positioned most west of the rest of the fleet. Sailing Poland is I think something of 20 miles in front of us and the rest of the fleet. Now we’re aiming 25 – 30 degrees heling 8 or 9 knots of boat speed heading in the right direction so it’s looking promising for now. We expect it to get lighter again early hours in the morning. “

“We’re happy, we’re in the direction that we wanted to be in now and we’re finally going the right way. Everyone is on deck; the spirit is good!”

With all the boats heading in different directions, it’s hard to compare. For now, it looks like we are in third. And for sure still the most easterly positioned boat.

Yesterday evening the crew struggled to find breeze along the island Mallorcas northwest coast. A look at The Ocean Race Tracker this morning shows us that Team Childhood I is currently in fourth position, approximately 300 nm from Genova.

With wind conditions in the region likely to remain light and fickle for the rest of the week no one can say for sure whether the north or the south route will turn out best by the time the teams arrive in Genova, where they are expected on Thursday.

The first 24 hours of this third leg of The Ocean Race Europe turned out different than expected.

Monday, June 14, 08.45 CEST
Good morning on day two of the third and final offshore leg of The Ocean Race Europe. Overnight Team Childhood I crossed above Ibiza as the only one in the fleet. For now, we’re virtually in third, behind Mirpuri and Sailing Poland. But as you can see on the tracker it’s way too early to say something meaningful about it.

19.55 CEST
An early split, with Team Childhood I being the boat positioned the most to the North East. Currently virtual in second behind Mirpuri. But as our skipper Simeon just said, this navigators game will probably start seeing results in a day or two.

19.00 CEST
Team Childhood I left Alicante for the third and final offshore leg of The Ocean Race Europe. The conditions were ideal for the start let’s hear from Jelmer van Beek before the start and Simeon Tienpont after 4 hours in the race.

Simeon Tienpont “We had a good start leaving Alicante, Spain for Leg 3 of The Ocean Race Europe. The tension is rising now the fleet is splitting up, onboard everyone is full of energy and happy."

- And they're off. That's a clean start for the VO65 class.
12:30
CEST - The boats have left the dock and there is just half an hour to go to start time. It should be a good start, with 10+ knots, but it won't be long before the wind eases and the tricky game begins. Even if most of the leg is forecast to be light, it won't be easy, with many navigational choices to make. With both the IMOCA and VO65 leaderboards so close, it will be a fascinating race to follow.

Sunday, June 13, 10:30 CEST
It's start day in Alicante.
On the calendar: Leg 3 from Alicante, Spain to Genoa, Italy.

The forecasts this morning indicate light winds for the next Leg.
The course now goes from Alicante to the Tabarca Mark and directly to the finish in Genoa. The leg will still be slow but the fleet is expected to finish during the day on Thursday.

LIVE video coverage from the start begins at 12:45 CEST.
